Back from Holiday, which were too short — obviously. We (Berndt and I) had a lot of awesome steaks, good wine and lot of fun. We had been to Cordoba, Bariloche, Mendozza, El Chalafate, El Chalten and Bueons Aires. (I missed Iguazu due to my Promotion). Actually I could write an endless article about my holiday. In order not to bore anyone, just drop me a line and we head for some steak and wine and I’ll give you the details on our trip.
Big day today. Today I received my “Promotion sub auspiciis presidentis rai republica“. This kind of promotion is given to PhD with an outstanding performance by the president of Austria. (approx. 10 PhDs per year, out of 2.500 who finish their studies). Honestly, It was one of the greatest days in my life. My whole family was there, my colleagues from work and of the course the president. (He is actually a very nice guy). Just have a look at the pictures to get an idea, what a great honour and pleasure this was for me.
Yesterday we were hiking at Hohe Wand. The weather was great and I really enjoyed the day with my friends. It was also a first test of the equipment for my trip to Argentina. On the way home we got the information on the results of the Viennese elections, which will definitely change the political situation the Austria’s capital.
Well, summer is about to end, but weather is still great. So we spent the weekend in mid September at the lake, lying in the sun. It truly was a relaxing weekend just hanging around.

Today I got a very nice Call. “This is the secretary of the office of the president of the Austria …”. Guess why. I’m going to get a “Promotion sub auspiciis presidentis rai republica” – which is the highest distinction you can get for your academic performance in Austria. I’m … wow … among the very best computer scientists in Austria. (Approx. 10 Phds get this Honour every year … usually 2 or 3 computer scientists.) So I’m in good company. The promotion is on October 28th in Linz. Unfortunately I do have to reschedule my Argentina trip – but Argentina can wait. The president can’t
I’m so excited, I can’t tell you. 7 Weeks to go.
