Hohe Wand – Hiking

October 10th, 2010

Yesterday we were hiking at Hohe Wand. The weather was great and I really enjoyed the day with my friends. It was also a first test of the equipment for my trip to Argentina. On the way home we got the information on the results of the Viennese elections, which will definitely change the political situation the Austria’s capital.

Test – Test

October 4th, 2010

Today I had the chance to “test” the Ring which will be given to me during my promotion ceremony. It feels very good ;-)

Brussels

September 28th, 2010

After meeting Nelly Kores at the Campus Party in Madrid I was named to join the young advisory board for ICT of the vice president of the European Union. The whole conference was very interesting and also the meeting with Nelly Kores was good. Honestly I was pretty astonished, that such an important person as her, took the time during the conference to meet up with our small board (5 persons) to discuss new ideas and concepts for R&D in ICT.

Basel

September 20th, 2010

This week I spent two days in Basel, visiting the Magnolia Conference. Magnolia is an open Source Content Management, which is great. I love the system. It uses open source components such as JSR, JackRabbit, Lucence and provides a super usable interface on top for authors as well as developers. The API (Java) in order to build the website on top, is very powerful and easy to learn.

I enjoyed the conference where I got to know the people behind the scene and the ones I already knew from the forum. Magnolia’s office in Basel is great. It features a great terrace with an awesome view over the Rheine as well as a beer elevator.

Wakeboarding

September 12th, 2010

Well, summer is about to end, but weather is still great. So we spent the weekend in mid September at the lake, lying in the sun. It truly was a relaxing weekend just hanging around.

Call From the President.

September 6th, 2010

Today I got a very nice Call. “This is the secretary of the office of the president of the Austria …”. Guess why. I’m going to get a “Promotion sub auspiciis presidentis rai republica” – which is the highest distinction you can get for your academic performance in Austria. I’m … wow … among the very best computer scientists in Austria. (Approx. 10 Phds get this Honour every year … usually 2 or 3 computer scientists.) So I’m in good company. The promotion is on October 28th in Linz. Unfortunately I do have to reschedule my Argentina trip – but Argentina can wait. The president can’t ;-) I’m so excited, I can’t tell you. 7 Weeks to go.

E-Cars in Vienna

August 24th, 2010

The drivers for the “Zero-Race” stopped over in Vienna this weekend. The “Zero-Race” is a race of cars, which run 100 % on solar power or 100 % on renewable energy. The car were shown and demonstrated in front of the Austrian Parliament. It was quite interesting to see the different concept of the cars and get first hand information and experience from the people driving such cars around the globe.

Jump, Jump

August 24th, 2010

1000 meters freefall in 55 seconds. Awesome! Yesterday I did the parachute jump, which it got for my 30th birthday. It was the best and most exciting thing I have ever done. I want more!

Booked: Holiday in Argentina

August 20th, 2010

Berndt and I just fixed our trip to Argentina. We will head for South America from October 16th to November 14th. Just let me know, if you have any hints or any recommendations. I’m really looking forward to this holiday – just hanging around, doing nothing much.

Jetlake Chilling

July 16th, 2010

These days/weekends are simply too hot in Vienna. Therefore I enjoy heading home, for chilling at Feldkirchen’s Jetlake and for wakeboarding. I’m really missing all these people and the atmosphere from Jetlake a lot in Vienna.
